Day trips to Beaches - Parking or Fees?

Plan to make a day trip down to the beaches from Norfolk area sometime in July. Will I encounter problems in vicinity of Duck or southward, such as no parking near beaches, beach access fees or similiar aimed at day trip people?

There are no fees to access the beaches and all public access points have some parking, which is also free. The problem is, that sometimes it's very difficult to find a parking spot, since they are limited.

if you can't find a parking spot at a beach access lot, just park on a side street and walk. I'm not sure, maybe some other forum member can advise, but I think that Duck beaches are very hard to get to unless you're renting a house in the town. There aren't any public access areas in the northern beaches like there are in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head. Someone please confirm.

You are correct scw, we were just down to the Outer Banks last week - beautiful vacation, but from the brochures I've read about Duck- there is NO public beach access, we stayed in South Nags Head, where there are plenty of great public beach accesses from Kitty Hawk to South Nags Head. There are no fees for using these accesses.

From Norfolk, you will be driving to the OBX, and then about another 30 minutes north to get to Duck. If there is not a perticular reason the go to Duck, and you just want a beach day, you would be better off staying in the Kitty Hawk or Kill Devil Hills area for he day. Beaches there are very nice, access is better, and there are no fees on any of the beaches.
