Outer Banks Mid-May

We are heading to the Outer Banks(Corolla) for the first time in mid-May, and just wondering what to expect in the way of traffic/crowds etc? Will it still be pretty quiet at that time? What should we expect for a Saturday check-in day in the way of traffic getting on the bridge, etc? Thanks for any info!

We go either the first or second week every year and it's pretty quiet. Most everything is open, but the crowds are not really there yet. We go Sunday to Sunday so don't know about Saturday traffic, but traffic is never all that much of an issue in early May.

We like going off season (also go early September). The weather is nice (although, water is cold in May), there are less crowds, and you can still enjoy everything.

May and October are our two favorite months here on the coast. Yes, you will be ahead of most all the crowds and school kids. All the restaurants should be open and getting geared up for the season and the beach will be beautiful. As a bonus, if you fish this time of year the bite really begins. HAVE A GREAT TIME..

Thanks very much to both of you! It sounds like the OBX will be just perfect at this time of the year! And, yes, we plan on fishing (and trying our hand at crabbing), so great to hear that the fish will be biting!
