Just wondering if it is worth a trip in April or if it is too cold. Thanks

The water temperatures will be in the 50's and the air will not be much warmer than 65 on average. Not sure what your plans are but I would wait till late May.

We've stayed on the OBX in April. It's too cold for swimming and can be windy there at any time of the year. Is it worth it? That depends on what you want to do. We visited the Hatteras Lighthouse, enjoyed the solitude at Pea Island Wildlife Refuge, went to museums and gardens in Manteo, took the ferry to Ocracoke, went horseback riding, walked the beach, ate great seafood. The fishing was lousy because of the wind. I'd go back again in a heartbeat just to walk up the dune at Jockey's Ridge. Love the OBX!

You would not want to wear a bathing suit on the beach in April, but everything starts to open back up, so there is always plenty to do.

We have been going to the Outer Banks in April every year since 2000. We are also from Conn. It is a great time of year to go. Ocean water is cool (think Hamton Beach NH in august) but the kids and hardy adults have no problem going in. Most years the air temp runs from the mid to upper sixties to as high as mid 80s. Cooler at night. Get a house with a heated pool and you will not have a problem.
