Road and Beach Conditions After Hurricane Sandy

My fiance and I are planning a trip to OBX for our honeymoon in mid-May. Has there been significant beach erosion with Hurricane Sandy? How are the road conditions- are parts of Hwy 12 closed? We are thinking of staying in Nags Head, but I would also like to travel to Hatteras and Ocracoke. I haven't been to the Outer Banks in almost a decade, and I'm hoping it is as beautiful as I remember. Thank you for your replies!

No problems in Nags Head The road south still has problems when the ocean is rough and at hi tide near Rodanthy but they are working on a soluion to that and it is open right now . They continue to build up the sand dunes there and this winters storms has not helped . Just keep up with the local news and you should be well informed or check these web site for the latest info too.

Nags Head had no ill affects what so ever, Kitty Hawk had some ocean over wash but is all cleaned up and access is not a problem at all. I have been down to Hatteras since the storm and by the time you visit there should not be any issue unless a nor east'r blows in for a couple days which can over wash the road in Rodanthe. Enjoy your visit.
