Public Transport

Hello all,

My brother and I are planning a trip to the Outer Banks, and I'm trying to find out how possible the area is to navigate without a car. We're both under 25, so it would be expensive to rent a vehicle. We've been thinking about trying to rent bicycles instead and explore the area that way. What I'm really looking to find out is how bike-friendly the area is, and whether there is any public transportation we might default to as backup.

Thanks!

How are you getting here? Bikes would work in some areas and not so much in other areas. The only other transportation options would be a cab.

Aside from transportation concerns, have you lined up a place to stay? Some people have problems at your age.

Dare county does have a public transport van service. The tourists answer questions they don't know everything about. There are a lot of rules with the service so best to ask questions of them.

You can rent mopeds which are good for transportation except on the 5 lane bypass.
