Lunch While on the Beach

What do people typically do for lunch while spending a day on the beach? We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Kitty Hawk. Is there a nearby place where we could pick up sandwiches early in the day and put them in our cooler?

It's often quite windy on the beach and hard to rat on the beach without also getting sand in your sandwich! There are plenty of sandwich shops and restaurants and fast food to choose from. My family usually brings a few bottles of water and some snack crackers, bananas, things like that to the beach. We leave when we want to eat a meal, take a break, and come back later.

Darn auto correct! It's hard to EAT on the beach on a windy day without getting sand in everything. And it's usually windy.

From where you are staying you can go south to mile post 4.5 to Good Life Gourmet and get sandwiches for the beach. They have a good selection there. You can walk over to Hurricane Mo's on your way to the beach access there at Kitty Hawk Rd or to the Black Pelican to pick up food or come off the beach and eat there since they are just a couple hundred yards from your hotel. If you like Asian food be sure to try the place just in front of you - Asian Bistro - Very Good!!!

Lots of people go in during the heat of the day to avoid the sun and have lunch at their beach house or a nearby restaurant. Bad idea to spend all day in the sun if you're not used to it.

Also in Kitty Hawk, is JIm's Drive In. It is a very small road side place that has great milkshakes, sandwiches, burgers and hotdogs.

Another option is to buy sandwich fixin's that you love and make your own sammitches in plastic zippy bags to put in your cooler.

Add some pringles, some grapes, crackers and cookies and some drinks and you're good to go.

Your hotel has refrigerators in the rooms so it's totally doable and very convenient.

Baby wipes help with the sandy fingers issues, and you can always rinse in the ocean. :)

Lunch on the beach is a long standing tradition with many.

I mean, there you are, in your groove, finally really relaxed and de-stressed and a kid gets hungry. :)

Or you are hungry and the rest of the family is having too much fun to stop and leave.

Why let the timing get in your way?

A picnic lunch is always on time. :)

Unless it's blowing fit to truly sandblast my legs, we'll picnic on the beach.

And if it's blowing that bad, we're probably not on the beach anyway- happened 3 days on our last trip to Rodanthe.

We picnicked all the other days, and we were not the only ones noshing on the beach. :)

Try the Rundown Cafe for some good sandwiches. Eating lunch on the beach is fun. Make sure you have enough drinks with you. It gets hot.

If your just staying for a day then it may be no big deal to go pick up lunch, but any longer and you might save a lot of money by just making your own. We always stock up on bread, lunch meat, condiments, chips, grapes, sodas, Gatorade, and lots of water and just pack our own. Then you save money and don't have to leave when your hungry!
