Hi all can anyone tell me if there is any mosquitoes in Penang? If so do we need anti malaria tabs? Thankyou x
I believe this should be a question for your GP, since anybody answering can only speak for themselves and does not know your medical history here.
After all this is, unless this Government has already scrapped it, is still considered preventative medicine and free. See below:
hiya gailjane how u duin?well got to say i get ate alive with mozis, on penang in batu ferringhi and also georgetown i have a bath in mozi re[ellant x
Totally agree, seek medical advice, then you can decide what you should or should not do based on your own personal medical history.
However, Penang is a very low risk area for Malaria and Anti-malarials are not normally prescribed to visitors. Denge fever is more a risk in Malaysia and there is no protection for that other than avoiding the mozzies.
But you will find mozzies and they will bite you, so use a really good repellant [with deet] or natural product [Avons Skin so soft is also good] and cover up at the traditional biting times of early evening / dusk.
We tend to find that we are bitten at the begining of our holiday, when our little white skin is still soft and tasty, but we don't get bitten much. Its luck of the draw as to if you are a tasty meal for a mozzie or not!
PS you may find this link to a website useful . . . but still see your GP
Thankyou all for your advise ...........I have plenty of deet bug spray so thats another box ticked :) now what about ATMs anyone any thoughts on money changers V ATMs ........... 18 sleeps to take off x
just one point to add; the aedes mosquito which is the one which transmits dengue is active in the daytime. i have seen them in batu ferrenghi; they swarm under casurina trees in particular, and tend to be attracted to skin which is wet [on getting out of the pool for example].
ATMs are hard to find in Batu Ferringhi. Have only ever used money changers with our Australian dollars. Good rates and no problems ever with the money changer/travel man more or less opposite the Park Royal. Our tough Australian skins have never had a problem with mosquitoes either!
This is a tropical country and rainning season now.
Plenty of mosquitoes flying all over the country including Penang.
talking about mosquitoes, i think penang is full of them.. ahaha.. Personally, I dont think mosquito repellant is useful, and i still cant find a way to get rid of them. Can anyone give any advice for that?
Didn't get bitten once in Penang, that's not to say that there are no mosquitoes, but they are not as bad as other areas.
