we are travelling to costa rica from the uk . Is it better to take thlocal colon or us$

Suggestions would be, take both, all comerce accept US dollars and Colones, even mixed when paying a bill.

How ever in places like Hotels, transfer services, restaurants, you would like to pay in US dollars, due the exchange rate may be lower than the local banks.

When buying groceries better to pay in Colones.

Bring some US$ from UK and get colons from ATM in Costa Rica. Then pay in the currency the price is stated thus avoiding exchange calculations.

But that will mean pay his bank around 10% every time he uses the ATM....

loo187049 check with your bank if you have a 0% charge when use it out of your country.

What ever you decided...do not exchange you euros or USD in Europe or USA...wait until you are inside of Costa Rica at a local bank...you will get the best exchange rate...
