Does anyone know which time of the year will be better weather in Papagayo- the end of November or sometime in June? Thanks!
Good chances to have some nice weather around November...mostly at the end of the month...June maybe also at the end...good chances to hit the Little Summer of San Juan...
Keep in mind Playa Papagayo is a very touristy area that rather isolated from the rest of the country, its located in the ranch country, the area is mainly cattle grazing. It does not posses a rich or dense canopy, as this type of rainforest and jungle is further south, near Samara/Mal Pais, or also inland east of Liberia, like Tennerio/Rincon/Arenal.
I feel there are nicer and more authentic beach areas compared to Papagayo, like Tamarindo, Samara/Nosora, Montezuma/Mal Pais/Santa Teresa, and the caribe side in Nov is very good weather, the beaches south of Pt Viejo, are some of the best in the country IMO, and far less developed, or touristy.
The majority of lodging is multi national hotels/resorts, this is fine but its not authentic nor charming and intimate like a nice locally owned or hand built lodge or boutique hotel. Papagayo caters to the package tourist, and these properties isolate the tourist from the real country and culture, fine for some, but why come to a new country to be around a pool and have a gate with nothing around but more of the same, Hawaii or Aruba is a better time for that.Edited: 01 August 2011, 05:33
There is some very nice lodging on Papagayo Peninsula. It really depends on what you are looking for.
It's pretty easy to take day trips from Papagayo to any of five National Parks: Santa Rosa, Rincon de la Vieja, Miravalles, Tenorio or Palo Verde. You can hike, surf, take mud baths, do zip lines, visit waterfalls, go horseback riding, see volcanoes, walk through the rainforest, do some rafting. Of course, water activities are available including fishing, snorkeling, diving and sunset cruise.
It is a somewhat isolated and beautiful area - it just depends on what you are looking for.
That area of Guanacaste can be drier than most places so while June would probably be a bit wetter than the end of November, it's really hard to say. The end of November is a kind of transitional weather time so it is hard to predict - you would probably have more dry days than wet.Edited: 01 August 2011, 12:50
I think as far as weather, the end of November would be slightly better, but keep n mind that it is also high season so things will cost more. And it's very, very crowded around Thanksgiving!
thanks for the responses everyone!
November, not that many people, not that hot and lots of sun.
You are WELCOME!
Thanks for that information, we'll be there the last week of November and 1st week of December - glad to hear "not that many people, not that hot and lots of sun" - that's just what we're looking for !Edited: 02 August 2011, 17:38
wow. Looks like jbatalla and I have a whole different perspective about crowds at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Maybe some areas are different, but here in Nosara, it's packed that time of year! My house, and most others here have been booked for those weeks for months!
I agree about Thanksgiving and Christmas - very busy and popular places already booked.
But the last week in November and the first week of December are not really considered "Thanksgiving" or "Christmas" so a different thing.
