September/Rainy season....

We are just about to book a trip to this area either mid-end September and in researching online I've learned that it's rainy season. Obviously no one can ever guarantee the weather, however, does rainy season in this area typically mean it is more likely to rain than the non-rainy reason months or should we be prepared for a monsoon every day and not bother going because we won't be able to swim, go on excursions, etc? Or, does rainy season mean there's still sunshine but it rains on and off, which I can totally deal with. I tried to Google for September 2011's weather calendar to get an idea but came up empty handed. Unfortunately this is the only time this year we'd be able to go, so it would be here or somewhere else, and really have our hearts set on the four seasons Costa Rica. Any advice as to what September rain has looked like there in the past couple of Septembers - daily monsoon or rain on and off?

September and October are normally the rainiest months for many areas of Costa Rica including Guanacaste. Chances are you will get rains but you would still many hours of sun during the day. Last year it was pretty dry on those 2 months and just a few days of rain which was not normal but as you mention no one can ever guarantee the weather. Right now may is part of our rainy season and we have enjoyed many hours of sun everyday.

Imposible now days to predict our wetaher even for us NATIVES of this great country...

By tradition September is one of the worst months regarding rain...is really wet...and now with global warming....

Some times will rain in the morning some times in the afternoon ...some times at night and sometimes the whole day!

Now days we have rain even late december -...somenthing that 45 years ago was unthinkable ...

Sincerely yours

Sept and October are the driest months and virtually no rain here in the South Caribbean side of Costa Rica. However no hotel down here comes close to something like the Four Seasons. You could check out Chameleon. It is considered upscale for this area.

The caribbean is drier during Sept and Oct, and the rainiest in the Pacific. I live on the pacific side and I likke both sides, but as for your question, normally rain and no rain, sometime rain and then sun, only under influence of a hurricane there will be a full day of rain.

People visit Costa Rica during this 2 months, so come and enjoy.

You should know we only have 2 seasons, rain and drought, but rain doesn't mean 24 hours of rain, not even 12 hours of rain, it would be more like rain in the afternoon, or in the morning, enjoy Papagayo.

If you want to stay at FS, take a chance on the weather, though it's the Green Season, the North Pacific is the driest on the Pacific side of country, you might get lucky. There is no hotel that compares to it in Costa Rica.
