First time in Santorini. A couple of questions left please.

We will be in Santorini for two weeks from June 2, staying in Perissa at the Mark and Joanna Apartments. We have had most our questions answered by Brotherleelove, fotinos, gas, Baxedes (with details of the route from Perissa to Ancient Thera) and others. Many thanks for that even though you didn’t know you were all helping!

We are left with some confusion as to where to see artefacts from Akrotiri (from all your posts I am assuming it will still be closed) and what we will be able to see. Our confusion is between The Prehistoric Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the Nomikos Conference Centre all in Fira. Are they the recovered original wall paintings or copies, what is displayed in each place?

Are there any displays of material recovered from Ancient Thera?

Is there somewhere (web site or other source) we can find a schedule of when cruise ships will be in?

The wall paintings at the Nomikos Center are reproductions.

This website describes the museums and their collections: santonet.gr/museums/archaeological_museum.htm

akrotiri excavation is closed for the public. Also you can to find copies in nomikos conference centre in fira(in centre has part for akrotiri).prehistoric museum isin fira but in other place closed to central busstation. There recovered original wall paintings from akrotiri but for safety reasons isnot availlable to the public.nomikos is private , prehistoric is government owned , the Arhaeological Museum is the old the first museum in santorini. the new is the prehistoric. The Archaeological museum is closed to cable car area in fira too.

The ancient thera you can to visit all days exept mondays 0800-1430pm.

Totaly I propose you visit the ancient thera -the prehistoric museum and nomikos center.

from perissa has one pathway to ancient thera is easy to find is about 45min walking. the start of path start north of busterminal in perissa.

Thanks

That cruise ship schedule for port is golden. Thanks so much for giving that out! It is nice to know when the area will be extra jammed.

Hi Travelin'CalGal. Avoiding the crowds was why we asked the question but I must say it was more in hope but BLL has come up trumps again! We will also go to Oia etc when a ship is in port just to see the sight of a big ship in the bay. Can anyone suggest an nice looking ship, from the list, for us to see in the time we are there?

(We were about to leave, 1st May last year, for an RV tour of California so hope Santorini will be just as good!)

That sight is best viewed from Fira because of the distance, but you'll be able to see the ships from anyplace with a view of the caldera.
