Not sure on beer prices but spirits depend on when/where you're drinking. A lot of hotels have happy hours and some bars offer 2 for 1 though 2 for 1 on Orfandinou (Bar Street) is at 8€ for one drink! The smarter bars in town tend to be about 6€ for a spirit and mixer but that's for genuine Bacardi, Smirnoff, etc.

Whatever you do don't go into the Old Town and just ask for a large beer... some will bring you a ridiculously huge glass/boot and charge you around 12-15€ for the privilege!

Not sure that this is particularly widespread, but certainly it's good advice to always have a look at the menu, and avoid the parrot bar where this sharp practice is rife.

Once you're in the back streets away from the square and the 2 or 3 main streets of the old town, prices can be surprisingly low. We found a little shop/café/bar where I had a large beer for less than €2 last year, I think it was on Omirou, near a square with a mosque.
