What to Do in Ialyssos? We are a couple looking for ideas

Hello, its our first time to Ialyssos and we are both very excited, we are in our Thirtys give or take a few yrs between us, however we are not looking for Faleraki type entertainment, but we would like to know if there are bars around this town? We are staying in the Ocean Blue hotel and although we have all inclusive we like to visit about.

I would like to do

* Sight seeing

* Pub/ Bars for evening entertianment

* A beach not too far which is more suitable to sunbath as Ive hear d the beach near us is stoney! and for windserfers! this was not mentioned when wew booked but nether the less im happy with our choice.

* car rentals best place to rent from? is it a good idea to drive? I drive all the time on the baleric islands and am used to the crazy driving of others is greece a place not to be driving fall stop!

Thank you for your help I look forward to the replys

Louise :-)

We also are heading for ialysos for the last 2weeks of June , staying at the kassandra apt .

Will be staying well clear of falaraki , a chilled relaxing break is what we are going for ...

Any info on a local car hire firm and a good place to sink a few cold beers while watching the euro2012 would be well appreciated ......

Hi there

Driving on Rhodes is the best way to get out and about. It's a large island and although the bus services are generally pretty good, there are some places well worth seeing that are hard or impossible to reach on a bus. You can fit more in with a car as it's faster, and you have total freedom to do what you want without hanging around for buses. A car's more comfortable and of course, you can pull over anywhere you like for photos or just to take in the views.

Once away from Rhodes Town, the roads are fine, there's essentially a main east coast and a main west coast road, with lots of lesser roads running to the interior of the island, some of which link up with both coasts. As with anywhere in Greece, keep well over to the right to let faster traffic pass you, and just take care at junctions.

I have visited Ialyssos but never stayed there, no doubt there will be people here who can recommend bars, restaurants, beaches , etc.

Rhodes town is a must in the day and night, the monastery at filerimos is nice with great views, the sandy beaches tend to be on the faliraki side whoever the beach does get sandy towards the airport this is were the nudists are though. The town itself is quite quiet due to all the hotels going with there is a good karaoke bar and a really good sports bar that will be heaving when the football is on. The best part though is the restaurants which are excellent this is why we will be going back in sept for our 6th visit.

The usual misguided Faliraki reference there I see, always happens, and as in this case, people usually spell the name of the place wrong too.

Driving here is so simple, there's very little traffic anywhere on the island apart from some parts of Rhodes town at some times of the day, the roads are pretty good, signposts are all in English as well as Greek, maps are extremely easy to come by and as the island is only about 15x50 miles in size it's virtually impossible to get lost.

If you want a nice sandy beach then the nearest is Faliraki, where incidentally the entertainment is extremely varied and suits all tastes, age groups and nationalities.

We've got a group of 6 pensioners in the bar as I type, they appear to be loving it.

Not enough, I could stay too long as my bits were starting to get burnt. One fella was just lying there next to everyone else by where the kite surfers set up, the others were down past where the abandoned tank is, some were hiding in the long grass and others were just strolling up and the beach, there might have been more but as you can tell I wasn't really looking.

you are half way to ialyssos beach and village and kremesti, you can walk along the beach to the electa palace carry on along the beach to pattys lounge bar, wait there for the little train this will take you all around the village and the bar street and back to pattys this will help you get your bearings, best advice,a good bar is the bikini bar you will pass it but not see it ,the train will turn at atlantica princess the bikini bar is the last building before the streatch of beach before the windmill that is brill for a tan with loungers and the sea at the side, buses are 4euro 40 each way to rhodes town, there is the old town new town and bar street is near the casino, lovely to walk all around rhodes, lindos is beautifull, but each level is more or less the same as the other.you are slightly out of it so the train is my best advice.enjoy its a relaxing place

for the footy, and coronation st and eastenders you need alkionis bar, there are quite a few footy bars, the bikini bar is near to you ,you will see the windmill on the front carry on to the right it is the first building past the stretch of beach, it has a bikini in the floor ,or you will miss it, it is near to the atlantica princess ,were you can get the little train, this is the best advice as it takes you down to pattys lounge bar,a brill bar especially at night, it then takes you up through the old village and back, you can then get your bearings. buses are 4 euro 40 each way to rhodes, the old town new town and bar street is near the casino, rhodes is lovely to walk round and you cant get lost, its very relaxing place, enjoy
