Cairnryan to Eyemouth/Berwick Upon Tweed Transport

Seeking ideas for transport from Cairnryan Ferry port to Eyemouth/Berkwick Upon Tweed Area. Bus seems to be multi transfers. Rental car is a consideration. Maybe a train to Berwick via anther large city/town. Any thoughts? Thank you

You might well do better going to Stranraer rather than Cairnryan - it's one less change to contend with as to go anywhere you need to get to Stranraer first

Train is either via Glasgow (minimum one change) or Carlisle (minimum two changes and slower)

It's an awkward journey, as pointed out above. Hiring a car could well be the best plan.

You might also consider the National Express bus service 921 (a daily service) which leaves Cairnryan Ferry Terminal at 0950 and arrives at Carlisle Bus Station at 1235.

From thence, it is a short downhill walk to the Railway station where you can get a train to Newcatle upon Tyne then change to a train to Berwick on Tweed. Fast trains, frequent services on each line.

I did the National Express 921 to Carlisle last week - a comfortable journey.

Seems more sensible to fly to either Edinburgh or Newcastle and then take the train from there

A rental car would certainly be the easiest option. This is not really a good route to travel by train. If you wanted to travel by train, there are two possible routes:

1. Stranraer - Glasgow Central - Edinburgh - Berwick-upon-Tweed (you no longer have to change stations in Glasgow, but note that limited stop service from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh does not run as frequently as the main service from Glasgow Queen Street)

2. Stranraer - Carlisle - Newcastle - Berwick (but note that the Stranraer - Carlisle service is a very slow and may also involve a change at Kilmarnock)

I suggest flying from Belfast to Newcastle Airport, then Metro to Newcastle Central station, then a train to Berwick.
