You need to check out the ferry's own website for rail and sail packages. Though its more sail, coach and rail in this case. I think a coach takes you from cairnryan to ayr, then train to glasgow then train onwards to stirling, but don't quote me. There may be other options too.
The bus makes far more sense than my suggestion!
Check out the Scottish Citylink timetable.
Ulsterbus/Citylink 923 runs 3 times a dayBelfast/Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station.
Then Citylink M8 Dundee service will get you to Stirling.Edited: 04 July 2012, 19:40
If you are not set on doing this by caoch whihc will take at least 7 1/2 hours you can fly from Belfast City to Glasgow Intl. take the bus to Queen Street and then train to Stirling in less than 4 hours even taking into account waiting and check intimes at Belfast.
And for the final leg there are frequent buses between Stirling (bus station, next to the railway station, or the town centre bus-stop close by) to the University.
