It depends what your definition of packed is - if you're hoping for you, a couple of sunbathers and thats it then yeah you will find it busy.

Weekends tend to find it busier as local families come down but they tend to stay by the waters edge with blankets. There are lots of loungers and plenty of space.

Its a beautiful white coral sand beach surrounded by nice bars and restaurants. http://www.playa-amadores.com/

The Amadores area itself is very quiet on a night as other than the bars by the beach that stay open you would need to go into nearby Puerto Rico or up to the Europa centre for more lively entertainment.

Amadores is a purpose built tourist beach and can get busy.

Do local hotels reserve sun loungers?

If not, can you pay to reserve them at the beach?

Is this even necessary?

No local hotels do not reserve loungers at the beach.

You pay for lounger hire at the beach when you have selected your lounger.

AMADORES is lovely alot nicer than the dirty beach in puerto rico itself. We went there one evening for a meal (paella) in one of the many restaurants along the waterfront - amazing!
