After "two weeks of intense criticism", the Department of Transportation is rethinking its current plan to close the Anna Maria bridge for repairs in April. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports that several alternatives are being discussed. One plan would call for a shortened 45-day closure beginning in April 2008. Two other plans envision closing one lane at a time next fall, something that would stretch out over 105 days. Some minor repairs will still begin this January 7. Some closure seems to be necessary; it's a question of when and for how long.
