Things to do

Hi; We are staying at Sand Castle condo in March and would love advice on where to go and what to do while we are there. There are 6 middle aged adults with varying interests. The island sounds great for relaxing, any special places we shouldn't miss? And when we want to have some fun, where should we go? We have cars so traveling a little isn't a problem. Thanks for any suggestions you can make for us. It is all appreciated. (we do have a Moose Member amoung us. We heard the bar there was good)

Not sure where that's located, but don't miss St Armand's Circle in Sarasota, a trolley ride away. Also, Mote Aquarium, near St. Armond's. Plenty of restaurants, use search key above. Cortez village. Shopping anywhere and everywhere, including the Ellenton Outlet Mall. Ringling Museum, Jungle Gardens, Selby Gardens in Sarasota.

Thanks for your suggestions. Sand Castle Condo I believe is 200 Gulf Dr., Bradenton Beach. If it isn't too far, we were interested in Busch Gardens in Tampa. Some sight seeing would be fun, and of course the Ladies would LOVE the shopping. Any good night spots, like live music or a piano bar? Thanks again

Baha

Busch Gardens is about 1.25 hours drive from AMI ( depending on traffic ).

RustyKat can tell you about the Moose Lodge as she goes there from time to time.

As regards night life, this revolves around the bars and restaurants on the island. If you want something more lively then you need to go further afield (Bradenton, Sarasota )

The Moose Lodge is right at the beach and directly at the circle of Bridge Street.

Nice People, cheap beer and the beach ...

Thanks for all your suggestions. There will be 9 of us in all so it would be easier to take the trolley if we hop around. Am I correct that the trolley will not take us to St.Armonds Circle? We may want to go to Seista Key for something fun to do? Any place in particular we can set out GPS to guide us there? We do appreciate good music. It is below 0 here and a foot of snow. Can't wait to get somewhere warm!! One of us in our group has a hot convertible and the rest of us will ne sharing a mini van........

You should be able to catch a Sarasota bus (SCAT) from Coquina Beach at the south end of the island. There is a fee, but it's not much. This will take you to St. Armand's, or downtown Sarasota if you wish.

Last week we stayed at a condo at Silver Sands on Longboat, a short drive to Coquina Beach, located on the south end of Anna Maria Island, It was clean and covered with beautiful white sand. Plentiful free parking, lifeguards, concessions, picnic tables, restrooms and showers are all available. On Monday a.m. other 60-somethings like us were walking the beach or the trail next to it.

A boat launch, bayside, is across the street from the beach as well as Coquina BayWalk at Leffis Key where footpaths and boardwalks lead visitors around restored tidal lagoons and mangrove shoreline. As we watched a fisherman out on a sandbar, a dolphin came near to do some fishing of his own. Such a relaxing, low-key setting.

Last week's temperatures were Chamber of Commerce perfect -- highs in the 70s and up to 80 one day. Great covertible weather. My husband swam in Silver Sands' heated pool, but we didn't go into the Gulf more than ankle deep.
