are credit cards readily accepted ?

I keep hearing about exchanging money at the bank vs the

'Parallel market'

is this safe ?

it sounds kind of shady to me

If you use credit or debit cards here in Venezuela you will be charged at a rate of Bs.4,3 to US$1 + any bank charges.

An example would be a purchase or cash withdrawal of Bs.100 would cost you at least US$23.25.

On the other hand if you bring US$ cash in $50s & $100s to exchange while you are here that same Bs.100 will only cost you about US$12.50.
