Alvor vs. Lagos

We were in Lagos last year and loved it. Want to go back to Portugal but thinking of trying Alvor this time. Is it a similar size to Lagos and does it have the same feel to it. We loved the fact that Lagos had a marina and then the alternative old town - with a fab selection of restaurants.

Alvor is a smaller town than Lagos but is surrounded by assorted holiday resort complexes. The beaches are much closer to town than they are in Lagos.

Alvor, as Lagos, is just upriver from the sea and the town still has a lot of fishing boats.

Another point to remember with Alvor, is that unlike Lagos it is off the beaten track for public transport.

Lagos has bus/rail services to many destinations, while Alvor has limited options by bus. If staying in Alvor, you will need a car if you plan going anywhere other than Lagos or Portimao.

Just to say it is easy to get a taxi or bus into Portimao from there you can get a train or bus to where ever you want .Also Alvor has more of a fishing village feel than a town but is buzzing of an evening with loads of good restaurants .
