Thaproban Beach Hotel. Sri Lanka

Hi we are 2 active pensioners who are coming to Sri Lanka for 3 to 4 weeks, around the middle of January 2011. Would this be a nice quiet place to stay? We have had problems getting up details on the hotel, rooms rates etc. Maybe some one can let us have the details. Thankyou.

I've not stayed at Thaproban but have seen it when staying at Unawatuna. It's in a lovely position just feet from the sea and Unawatuna is a pretty quiet and laid back place for a holiday all in all. Have you looked at the many recent reviews for the hotel here on TA?

Red Dot Tours list it on their website with lots of information, together with prices, which, at $50, may not have been updated recently.

Maybe also have a look at Hotel Dhammika which is nearby and is where I stayed earlier this year. Again, very small and quiet and is just steps away from loads of restaurants all along the beachfront.

Also check out the Thambapani - same ownership. About 100m inland from the beach but very nice - an up market version of Thaproban. Know both quite well but not stayed in Thaproban. Communication is a bit erratic with the management by email . We booked a room in Thaproban but it was occupied so they put us in Thambapani and I'm glad they did.
