Staying in Unawatuna and doing a safari

I’m hoping to stay towards the end of March in Unawatuna, I was wondering if its realistic to do a safari from there? Has anyone stayed in that region and done a safari? If so I would be really grateful to hear how long it took too travel and prices.

Thanks in advance.

Sally

Uda Walawe has great landscapes, but very few animals.

Minneriya would be the best place to see herds of elephants :)

While Yala is a must because it is the only place to spot a leopard or two (some elephants too, but not as many as Minneriya)

I saw 70-80 elephants (enough for me) last time I visited Udawalawe.

Hi there,

Around Rs 4,000 for the jeep from your acco and Rs 2,500/person entrance. So for a couple Rs 9,000 makes 50 quid.

As for acco, the recently opened

http://www.pavanaresort.lk/

seems to have by far the best price/quality ratio near UW. The other options, Centauria and Kalu's, cost a lot more which especially Centauria is not really worth ;-)

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]
