Birds of prey

This is going to be a very long shot in the dark !!!!!!!!!

I am a falconer and keep birds of prey and its great to see the different birds of prey on the island.

I read somewhere(then lost the webpage) that a woman in Stalis runs a hospital for injured birds of prey. I think its midway between Stalis and Malia. I would love to pay her a visit., and help in the donation box.

Would anyone have any info on this place.

Many thanks

Roy

Can't help with the hospital but you often see Griffon Vultures soaring over the hills. A fine sight!

Hi there

One of the best places to guarantee that you will see these birds is the Selinari Gorge by the monastery of Saint George Selinaris this is located on the national road that leads from Heraklion to Agios Nikolaos,

As there is currently a detour (while they repair the road and secure the rock) you are diverted down the old road, here it is possible to pull over and observe the birds nesting - this would be if you are travelling towards Heraklion :-)
