Porches itself is a small village where nothing happens. The resort hotels, although in the parish of Porches, are in an area called Senhora da Rocha about 3 miles away, which is 90% holiday developments and very little else.

Alvor does have a sense of community, being an old established village.

We stayed in Alvor at the pestana resort. As long as you stay at a good hotel it doesn't matter too much. We got a taxi to the fishing village to eat one night was very quiet but adequate. Definetly a more relaxed spot. Vilamoura or albufeira is better if you like a night life and choice of restaurants outside your hotel. We jumped into a cab on few occasions and came back into town so to speak and that was fine!

Not much going on in Porches apart from every-day life. If you can change your plans, do!
