We visited it in 2008 and it was stunning. Glad to see it made the list.

Thanks Burak. Good news for Selimiye Mosque and Edirne. I have been to Edirne many times. Well worth the visit. Visitors can do a day trip but I suggest an overnight trip. Here are more details on trip to Edirne: "turkeytravelplanner.com/go/…".

good luck,

Been in Edirne for the past 2 nights. This place is a great city. So much Ottoman history everywhere. Im loving it. Kinda sad to be leaving in the morning. Extremely friendly and humble people. Was the capital of the Ottoman empire for 90 years. Even after Istanbul became the capital of the empire it was still in Edirnes eski camii (old mosque) that it was announced to the public of the next territorial target that was to be acqiired. The conquest of Istanbul was also announced from the eski camii. The Ottomans began their war campaigns from here

Walking from Edirne to Greece yesterday i got a surreal feeling of the troops marching across the tunca & meric bridges destined for Europe. May Allah bless the souls of those Ottomans who fought tooth and nail for this country in the name of Allah.

Well recommended as a day or overnight trip

I hadn't realised before that there is also a World Heritage "tentative list" on the same page as the main list for Turkey - http://whc.unesco.org/en/statesparties/tr
