Thinking of booking for St Lucia

On holiday we try to choose resorts where we can walk along the beach for quite a good way - in Cuba we walked and, found a local beach front cafe where we used to eat lobster tails - a change of scenery from the a/i dining experience.

Would be able to do this at the Coconut Bay - just need to escape from the confines of the a/i now and again

At the moment we are sifting through destinations and, trying to make a decision!

Ohhh I forgot - the weather at the end of October please also.

Thanks

Jan

End of October is still rainy season and is the tail end of hurricane season. Generally speaking the weather should still be ok - showers are short-lived - you might get one rainy day per week. Although St Lucia is not often in the path of hurricanes - it was hit hard last Nov. by Tomas. You can still evidence of it in the south. It would be advisable to buy cancellation insurance.

The beach at CB is a nice long stretch of sand that's great for walking.

Hurricane Tomas hit October 29. Terrible damage. Unusual event. They rarely are hit by a hurricane.

OK, folks, Hurricane Tomas hit Oct. 30! I remember very clearly as it is our wedding anniversary and the island was preparing for Jounen Kwyeol the next day - Sunday the 31. Obviously, that did not happen!

Either way, end of Oct is usually pretty good weather - the year before, we were sitting on the beach for a private candlelight dinner, same as the year before. There's just no way to know in advance, but generally, it's pretty good weather with some rain and plenty of sun - and great end of low season deals on hotels!

As for the beach - Coconut Bay is on a very long stretch of beach, one of the longest on the island. However, to walk to a local place along the beach will take about 30 minutes or so. There are a few stops. From the hotel, on the beach, head to your right and keep walking. Eventually you will come to a beach shack painted up in Piton Beer colors. they serve cold bears and drinks, excellent fried chicken, rotis, Jamaica patties, sometimes fish and sometimes whole meals - never know when those are on though. Also, they do a great thin crust pizza to order for around $10-15EC. Further down the beach - another 10/15 minutes walk is The Reef which has a full menu along with some great local flavors. This place was even on the Food Network with Paula Dean. Really good food - the saltfish and bakes are great. Also, this place is excellent for kite-surfing/wind surfing, etc. They host the Kitesurfing festival every year. Good food.

A little further past there is Island Breeze with bar type food - fish fingers, chicken fingers, burgers, etc. Very good fish fingers - and great bartender Apple!

That should give you a few options for a meal out away from AI.

Enjoy your visit to St. Lucia - you'll have a great time!
