Sea Fishing

My wife and I will have 3 days in Bay of Plenty, and would love to experience sea fishing there. Anybody can recommend good operator?

We are not into big game fishing, but just going out and catch a few fish will make us very happy. What could be the cost and time required?

Whakatane has better trips than Tauranga - they actually have a game fish club; you can also get out to White Island and fish there.

Tauranga is more cosmopolitan, but be aware that due to the MV Rena being stuck on the Astrolabe Reef much of the Tauranga fisheries are closed.

Hi

I know just what you are looking for - an enjoyable day out fishing with a friendly skipper who knows the area.

A number of guests at our lodge go out with Brian Harrison at Waihi beach and have a great time. You will find him at

www.waihibeachcharters.co.nz/fishing.html

And thankfully the direction of the tide and wind means that there is no oil at the northern entrance to the Tauranga Harbour, and great fishing at present.

If still interested check out Marine Life Tours in Opotiki:

Certainly an option for guided fishing trips in an area that is not affected by the Rena oil spill. We went twice with Marine life tours and caught plenty!

Not sure when you're arriving in the Bay but if you fancy doing something slightly different Canoe and Kayak Bay of Plenty run Kayak Fishing tours in the area. It's an awesome way to catch a range of fish and fun too. The fishing is still good despite the Rena. the guide will take you to the current best fishing spots and provide you with everything you need (rods, reels, bait etc) at no extra cost. Value for money at $150pp and a unique experience in the area.
