Aoraki/Mt Cook - Any Accomodation recommendations?

Hi Everyone,

Planning an overnight stay in Aoraki/Mt Cook whilst driving between Queenstown and Christchurch.

Does anyone have some favorite hotels? Any hidden gems? (I will keep it quiet lol)

Well located with nice views preferred. Moderately priced for an adult couple.

Many Thanks in advance :)

I like the Hermitage - so splurge for the night and take a mountain view room.

Or there are motels - some with nice views too. You have about 5 options to choose from - and no, no hidden gems :)

Agree about the Hermitage if you want to relax budget restrictions for something special. I guess it depends what is meant by moderate.

Check out Mt Cook Backpackers. Its just like a motel (in fact I think it was once) - very nice large ensuite motel-type rooms. Don't let the Backpacker name throw you off. When we were there it was nice and quiet even when a backpacker bus deposited its load for a night - the kitchen got somewhat crowded but that was about it.

Thanks for that. I will check out the Hermitage. Sorry Greg, but just the word "backpacker"is like fingernails down a blackboard for me haha

There are only about 6 options there. Hermitage is the luxury option, then there's everything else.

Cheers I have now booked at the hermitage.

Considering, that I am driving from QT in the morning to the hermitage - what can I do at Mt Cook in the afternoon?

I assume the glacier boat will not be operating in June? I would have enjoyed that.

The following day I head for CCH.

Hi, we're travelling via campervan & have to be at Mt Cook for helicopter flight on 20th April. Where can we stay that night after the flight? We're looking for campervan/ caravan parks nearby & there doesn't seem to be much choice? Thanks

DOC has a campground at Mt Cook/Aoraki - White Horse Hill campground. It's at the trailhead of Hooker Valley Track. Or drive back towards Lake Pukaki and stay at Glentanner Park, it will have more facilities and you can prebook.
