Train from Milan to Barga

Arriving in Milan in AM. What is best train route to get to Barga. Through Florence seems expensive. Through Genoa/La Spezia has a 9 min. change of trains which seems tight. Advice?

Assuming that you are thinking about the 12.05 from Milan to la Spezia, if you miss your connection because of a late arriving train, then there is another connection to Barga at 16.12 on which your ticket will also be valid. Though this has an extra change at Piazza al Serchio which is also tight, so takes longer.

The web site of the train operator, Trenitalia, suggests a number of possibilities with prices ranging from €25.35 to €42.70. None of them are fast: you are travelling some 175 miles on lines not laid out for high speed.
