How are the beaches in Oct?

What is the weather like in Oct.? Just for strolling and going for short day trips? What are the prices like?

Is this still off-season? Bethann

Where? NZ is a very long country and the weather varies enormously from one end to the other in the spring. Could be wet or windy but could be pleasant & sunny. Just depends on where you go. (This is the Turangi forum & you can't get much further from the beach than Turangi so I am confused!)

Hi Bethann,

October being part of spring, it's generally too cold for swimming, but there are some nice sunny days in between spring showers. October 22nd is Labour Day in NZ. Lots of bach-owning Kiwis, or rather cribs for the Southlanders, make their annual pilgrimage to their coastline and lakeside holiday-homes to tidy up their properties and prepare for summer and Christmas holidays.

I'm more familiar with Waiheke beaches which are wonderful for beach strolling during october. Bring a warm jacket in case there's a chilly wind blowing during your day trips. It's likely there'll be a nip in the air in all regions around NZ during October.

Perhaps the poster is referring to Tauranga coastline?
