Royal Decameron Resort

I have a question for all you RDC specialists out there! My cousin and her husband have booked the RDC for 2 weeks in Feb and she needs to pick which section she wants to stay in. I have never had the pleasure of staying at this Bucerias hot spot and so I am counting on the people who have experience here to make suggestions. I imagine it would all depend on one's tastes, beach or pool, etc. but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

We love building #2. Close to the activities pool and the flamingo buffet and great view of the ocean.

Hello Vamos

You are correct in this decision would be based on one's tastes...basically, RDC has something for everyone.

Block 5 surrounds the adults only pool, has a good number of sun/shade locations for the beach chairs, and a bar within a few steps. You are a 4 minute walk from the beach, and close to the Tropical check-in desk where you can make reservations for the a la carte restaurants in the mornings.

You are also in close proximity to the Piccolo, a good Italian restaurant in Block 6, right next to the Spa and Gym.

Our favorite over the years has been Block 5, for a more relaxing atmosphere.

Hope your cousin enjoys their stay at RDC, and be sure to tell them to walk into Bucerias and hop the local bus to Puerto Vallarta...both are adventures in themselves.

We have stayed in blocks 1-3-4 and 5 and they are all special in their own way.

Bldg 2 too noisy and too much traffic goes by there.

Bldg 1 too far over one side, 3 a bit isolated. 4 my fav.

central. 5 if you like quiet but has a tendancy to draw seniors who are not very social. 6 too far way if you just want to be by the pool ok.

4 is where I have stayed 2. Right across from one of the buffets near 2 beach bars and sunset watch.

I like the social aspects of it, some families, some kids, I prefer a mix of ages myself.

As a repeat visitor, I agree with the above post. Building 4 is the place to be. Close to eveything especially the beach and the beach bars.

With that said, I love hanging out at pool 6. Although there can be kids, it is quieter, larger, and has it's own bar as well as a place to eat.

Blocks 5 and 6 are newer.

It also can depend on which side of the building you are on in each block.

A bit of a crap shoot at times.

Vamos, As you can see, everyone has their favorite block for various reasons. We have visited the Royal Decameron 4 times, with each time, staying in Block 4. It is located next to the Tropical buffet (there is another buffet restaurant at the other end of the resort, the Flamingo), it has its own pool and bar, like many of the other blocks). Because the block is in the shape of a "U", you will get a full on oceanview room, or a partial oceanview room. With that being said, if you are in ANY of the blocks close to the beach, there is a good chance you will get some sort of ocean view, and, there is no extra charge. Block #1 is the only building touted as being oceanfront. It really isn't oceanfront, where you can walk out of your room, onto the beach. There is a walkway, with shrubs lining it, that blocks you from the beach. If you have a ground floor room, you will not get much of an ocean view. If you stay in the upper floor, you can see the ocean, but, there isn't much privacy. They have these weird, clear plexiglass dividers on the balcony, so you can see whatever you neighbor is doing. Many guests still love Block #1......others have stated it wasn't worth the extra money. If you want peace and quiet, Block #5, the adults only pool, is nice, I find it toooo quiet for my taste, but, many guests love it. Although we have never stayed in Block 6 (which is the newest and has central air conditioning), I believe it can get crazy fun, as we have sat in Block 6 before dining at the Italian restaurant (located in Block 6), and, I believe there is music played. I don't recall any music at any of the other blocks, other than round the activity pool, although, maybe I was talking too much and didn't notice it. What is sooo nice about the Royal Decameron is if you get bored at one pool, you can visit any one of the other pools, until you find the one that fits your "vibe" on that particular day. Although the resort is quite large, it does not have the feel of a mega resort, maybe because the resort is not really that deep. If you stay in Block 5 or Block 6, the buildings sit behind the original 4 buildings, lining the beach, but, it is only a 5 minute walk to the beach, unlike the walk at a mega resort, where is can take 15 minutes to get near the beach.

Even though the Royal Decameron is only a 3-3.5 star resort, the resort has a huge return guest following, most likely because there is something for everyone and you cannot beat the price.

My cousin says muchas gracias for all your comments based on your past experience with this resort. It will definitely make her decision an easier one.
