Walking from new town to old town

I am visiting Fredrikstad soon and staying in the new town but wondering if it possible to walk to the old town instead of getting the pedestrian ferry.

Thanks

Looks like a fairly unpleasant walk over a heavily trafficked bridge with a narrow footpath - why wouldn't you want to use the free ferry?

It is, but it's a bit longer. Just look at any map and you will see your options.

Walking across the bridge is possible, but not recommended: http://goo.gl/maps/kcGLW

Depends on what you mean with "the port". The city is situated in a delta so there are many canals and different places for boats to dock. Do you have the address of where you plan to dock? I would say that if you dock on the same side of the main river as the city it is possible to walk. But if you dock east of the river, you should use a taxi or public transport
