Arthur's Pass to Blenheim - most scenic/interesting route?

Hi

We are driving from Fox Glacier up to Arthur's Pass and overnighting there. We're looking for tips on the best route onwards to Blenheim. We're quite happy to double back and head up past Greymouth, but would welcome input as to the most scenic/interesting route.

Our starting point for the trip is Christchurch and heading south, so we won't have done Kaikoura or anywhere else north of Arthur's Pass and I'm wondering what approach might be the best.

thanks for your help

Play around with this and see what appeals most http://maps.aa.co.nz/#directions

The inland route is slightly shorter but via Oxford and Kaikoura is also interesting. I wouldn't say one is more scenic than the other.

What time of the year will you be travelling? Ohau near Kaikoura is a popular stopping point tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g255374-d2…

We're travelling late November. Really excited by a three week visit to South Island. I was there 25 years ago and have been planning a return visit ever since!

I'd heard that the Greymouth - Westport stretch is one of the great drives, but I'd also heard that Kaikoura is beautiful. Hard choices as ever!

We stayed in Arthur's Pass Mountain Cabins - run by Youth hostels but just cute little separate cottages that are great and cheap. There is a restaurant and takeaway place in Arthur's Pass but not huge amount of groceries. Do the Devils Punchbowl walk - about 1 hr. We did a five day walk. It is a great area.
