White Horse Hill campsite- week after Christmas

Has anyone stayed here the week between Christmas and New Years? I am curious how crowded it normally is and how hard it will be to get a spot (you cannot reserve ahead of time from what I understand). Would it be better to reserve a spot at Glentanner instead, just to ensure that a spot will be available? Any advice would be appreciated!

I'd reserve at Glentanner. It should be packed the Xmas/NYE week, depending on weather, of course. The no-reseration DoC camps are always a crap-shoot on this busiest of weeks, so I'd pay the extra for a reservation and the piece of mind, since you are coming from across the world.

Have a frenzied time in NZ!! cheers, scott

If you are arriving early afternoon you should be ok. The difference in the view between Glentanner and White Horse Hill is stunning. However I would pick Glentanner over Tekapo or Twizel, just make sure you have your food unless you like stuff from a pie warmer.

Glentanner will have hot showers, I dont think White Horse does yet.
