In Clare for Aug 9 - 17th with 15- 19 year olds what to do?

I will be in Clare, Ennis . With my 3 boys 17- 19 that have been 3 times before when we lived in UK. This trip we are bring my sister and niece age 15 yrs. for their first trip over seas. We will be visiting family in Tulla and Ennis where our grandma emigrated from.. thankfully our uncle still lives at the farm in Tulla ...modern now but to us just as it was for grandma..

I was planning to book a castle stay in at Ballyportry as a treat.. but with teens what are some suggestions ... surfing, fishing, hiking.. music that would be in the area...

Also suggestion for alternative .. I can fly in to Dub from Edi on 9th and drive across to Ennis. Would need to back in Ennis area by the 11th to do family visits.. Where would you suggest to visit along the way.. or would it be better to just fly from EDI to Snn and hae adventures there .. thus avoiding older teens in longish car rides..

Thanks

We did some good hiking in County Clare last May. This website was a good source of hikes for us. We particularly enjoyed the Caher Valley Loop Trail.

How you come over from Dublin or what you do (south?) from Shannon is open to suggestion but its under 3 hours to Ennis even cutting the old way and over from Birdhill.

Lough Derg has a few things to keep older tees amused, Water Skiing and the ULAC centre

Probably not a problem sitting in a pub for a music session with the festival on in Feakle 8th-13th. As suggested lots of walking with the Burren and East Clare way walking paths at that age you couldn't keep me in the house.

The Rose of Tralee kicks off officially on the 17th but there is usually a build up for the week or so beforehand. http://roseoftralee.ie/

Definitely worth hiring a boat and having a day on Lough Derg and visiting Holy Island:

Lehinch is good for surfing, with lots of surf places for board hire and so forth. Some people like Spanish Point, too, but it is less favoured than Lehinch.

As teenagers we always loved a trip in to Galway, as well, with a visit to Salthill after the city centre!

Thanks all.. I had forgotten about. Feakle festival.. I will definitely try to make a day there.. Plus my son want to take a fiddle session inand maybe a workshop..

Had holy island on my list so it is great to see a recommendation for it.

Are there any local sporting events .. I think we have missed all of hurling, sadly. But are there local team playing yet in aug or am I way off the season...?
