Ennis to Killarney via Dingle

My wife and I are planning an April touring of Ireland and part of our trip is in the West. We are doing a typical tourist route on the southern line of Galway-Dublin. Is it too ambitious to drive from Ennis to Killarney via the far west coast, looping in the Dingle peninsula? Google map shoes it as 4:30 which i know is long but we would be stopping multiple times so 6-7 hours? Are we just going to be seeing the road the whole time?

We will be staying 2 nights in Killarney and pictured doing the ring one day.

Thanks for the advice

Yes, you're pushing it. I was in Dingle last August and did the Slea Head Drive, which I presume is what you intend doing. Between all the stopping and starting and photographs etc, etc, I was 7/8 hours doing just that - never mind driving from Ennis and then on to Killarney.

However, if it is that you want to see Dingle, then I suggest that after driving down from Ennis, and I would suggest a very early start, so as to make the most of the Dingle peninsula, you then stay that night in Dingle, rather than Killarney.

The following day you could travel from Dingle to Killorglin and then continue on the Ring of Kerry, finishing up in Killarney that evening. However, I should warn you, I also did the ROK in Aug, and spent three days doing it - I got side tracked so much.

Thank you, I really don't want to fall into the trap of being in the car the whole vacation! But as many vacationers before me have done is trying to fit everything into 10 days. I know this is impossible so we will just have to come back for a second or fifth visit =)

Is end of April going to be very touristy, I know the "high" season is June, but wondering if I will be fighting crowds and trafic in the end of April.

Thanks

You will have no problems with travelling or crowds at that time of year, and even in 'high' season, I never find it a problem. If are still going to be here on 3 - 6 May, then just be aware that that weekend is a 'bank holiday' weekend, when things might be a little bit busier, traffic wise, with many people travelling for that weekend, and it might be no harm to have your accomodation pre booked for those nights, especially if you want a particular place
