Cala'n Bosch with teenagers.....

we are going in July with our teenager daughter and her friend (both 15). We want to give them a good level of independence - what sort of things are available for them - both day and night time to make them feel grown up without being vulnerable?

Thanks

Sue

Eeek I have to say that Menorca does not offer too much for 14-17 year olds IMHO even Cala en Bosch. Waterpark,Cycle hire,( flat ) Only you know what your girls like. Menorca is very safe.

I agree that if they are looking for "excitement" this may be hard to find but they are only 15 and as you are responsible for your daughters friend as well, I think that the fact that there isn't too much of this around may be a relief! The island is a very safe place so as long as they stick to basic safety rules re strangers, letting you know if they are going to be later than agreed when they go off on their own etc.. Teenagers always find others to chill with wherever they go so they should have a good time even if the place isn't buzzing!

It seems to me that the main thing for two 15 year friends wanting to feel grown up is to be allowed to wander around the resort, stop for coffee /ice creams/window shop etc. on their own safely and you have that in the resort as it is big enough to "lose" mum and dad but not be too far away - just make sure that everyones mobile phones are enabled to allow roaming in the EU before you go ( some companies won't do this for you if you are already abroad ) and key in your own numbers with the correct dialing codes for spain into everyones phones so that you are all in instant contact in case of emergency.

If you go into Cuitadella they will love the shops selling girly bits and bobs near the harbour or in the markets in the main square closeby - again they should be fine to wander and then meet up with you again BUT make sure they have a map as the streets all go off at odd angles and they could get a bit lost if they get disorientated

With Ciutedella, while a map is a good idea, the main thing is what ever road they go down, they will find the ring road at the end of it (max 3 min walk). As long as they know if lost to turn right at the ring road and follow it, they will always end up back near the bus station in under 10 min.

Also note that their is a very good mobile phone signel in that side of the island (even in the smaller resorts), on the Air Tel or Movistar networks. While it will cost if they need to use it, its an idea as a back up so you can remain in contact with them.

If you want to give them a few hours on their own, you could put them on the direct bus to Cala Blanes (what only picks up at the stop near Cala Bosh beach) at lunchtime, and you follow on the bus about 6pm.

After the beach, you could head into The Square where outside they will be live music (Abba or Fake That etc), and inside if they will find more disco type music in a few places.

Last bus to connect with a bus to Cala Bosh in Ciutedella is about 11pm, or a taxi will cost about 25 Euro.

Hi - I think Calan Bosch marina is perfect for teenagers of that age....there is plenty to do...lots of cafes, bars (some open very late), shops, plenty of restaurants to suit everyone and a beach they can walk to as well as live music most evenings and tribute bands such as Elvis on certain evenings. You can also book boat trips and the main town of Ciutadella is not far away - great for shopping and a bit of culture. Other resorts are nearby, a visit to Cala Galdana beach is a must. You'll all have a great time.
