Are the roads safe?

I will be in Kamari for a fortnight in July and thinking about hiring a car for a couple of days to see the Island but have heard a few tales about the roads being unsafe?

Does any one have an opinion on the roads of Santorini, safe dangerous or otherwise?!?!

does any one have any experiences of the switchback road? i a. so scared at the thought of travelling up it! has anyone went up it in a bus?is it scary?

It it's the road I'm thinking of, it's the one that comes up from Athinios, the ferry port. I've only been on it a couple of times, and it's certainly an experience. Unless you have reason to want to go to Athinios, you'll not need to use it at all.

the switchback road... its very twisty and is very steep.

my partner wants to go up it to see the Thira ruins etc but i get butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it!!

Hi brossie.

The road up to the ruins isn't too bad, you can go up at a fairly slow pace and if you go up before 12 there is hardly anythin on the road apart from people walking really

Sarah, C are you there just now... if so when you use that switchback road give me your honest opinion..

is it really steep? is there a steep drop from the side the roads?

Sarah, the road in the previous picture was to Athinios port, not to Ancient Thira. Google images of "road to ancient thira" and you will see, this is one of them:
