Summer traffic going down the Shore

How early do I have to leave on Sat. in the summer to avoid most of the traffic? Leaving from Exit 142 on Garden State, going to Atlantic City.

I see your destination is AC. You can try reposting in the AC forum and maybe get some more assistance. I can tell you to get off GSP at exit 40 and take Rt30 into AC to save 75¢ toll and there are chances for cheaper gas, fast food and if your destination is an Uptown casino, you wont be doubling back by going further south on GSP and then North once you arrive in AC. I expect a lot of posters may be in AC right now and unavailable to post

I would suggest you leave with a plan to get into AC by 9AM at the latest. You can do what the above poster suggested but if your time is worth more than the 75 cents, I'd do what we've done for years and take the Atlantic City Expressway into town.

If I were leaving from Madison on a summer Saturday, I would try to leave no later than 7 am “to avoid most of the traffic.” Taking exit 40 and route 30 is a short & more interesting ride, yet it’s true you MIGHT save a few minutes with the Expressway depending upon where in AC your final destination is.
