Which Jersey Shore Town for family weekend with 9 yo girl.

We've never been to the Jersey Shore and want to do a last minute Sat/Sun overnight. We'd like to be able to spend some time at the beach and some time on a boardwalk. Any recommendations for which Jersey shore town, which place to stay, and anything special to see or do would be appreciated.

I have never been to any of the beach towns north of Atlantic City but my favorite by far is Ocean City. It is a nice family town. There are nice guarded beaches and an great boardwalk. I have two boys and they love it there. It is a dry town so there are no rowdy crowds there.

There are probably many places along the Jersey shore that would suit your needs. Difficult to make many specific recommendations without knowing your budget or what might be "special" to you. Maybe some of the information at these links may help.

Ocean city is compact classy and a bit expensive in mid summer. Wildwood is sligtly cheaper to visit louder and glows of neon at night. Cape may is classy but boring for kids. Atlantic city is very cheap to visit but the beaches near the casinos are overloaded with cigarette butts. All that said when my daughter was 9 she favored wildwood best. still Ocean city is super close to wildwood so you could stay in one town and visit both boardwalks.

Firstly, it may be tough to find accomodations for only a 1 night Sat/Sun stay.

You live in Montclair, how far do you want to drive for just a 1 night stay? You can look into Point Pleasant or Seaside Park.

Point Pleasant has a board walk with rides & games. It's about the closest one to you & is family friendly.

You don't have to stay in Pt. Pleasant. Spring Lake, Manasquan, Brielle, Belmar & Avon are all a short distance on Route 35. I like all of their beaches better than Pt. Pleasant, unless you go all the way south.

I don't think I'd take a 9 year old to Seaside.

Wildwood is far but would be an OK choice if you are not dealing with traffic.

It will be difficult to find a hotel/motel willing to do a one night stay during the summer. Your best bets are Wildwood/Wildwood Crest. There are a few who do not have minimum stays
