NYC and the Jersey Shore in One Week

We are thinking of flying in to Philadelphia International Airport, then:

-Driving straight to NYC for just one night (we have a doctor appointment), after our appointment we'll leave and go

-Through Coney Island for a quick walk on the boardwalk, then

-Down to Pt. Pleasant (stay for a night or two)

-Down to Ocean City (or possibly stay here?)

-Then on down to Cape May

-Then back to Philadelphia International Airport to go home

We have about a week to dedicate to this trip. Is it biting off too much? Did we pick worthwhile towns to hit and how many nights would you give each one? We'll be traveling with two very young children. Any advise or recommended changes to the itinerary are welcome! Thanks in advance everyone!

With two young children, that is a lot of moving around. Here is my suggestion:

Skip Coney Island...getting there involves driving on The Belt Parkway, one of the worst roads in the NYC area and to just walk on the boardwalk?

Pick two towns ,..how about Ocean City or Pt. Pleasant and Cape May?

Susie, Thanks for the suggestion. We love it!

Would you pick Ocean City or Pt. Pleasant?

We are traveling in late July. Is that a good time, or would late June be better?

Thanks so much Owlyn and Susie! I've been researching this trip like crazy. It's nice to have some insight from people that actually know.

This is outside OCNJ, and has good amenities & location http://www.pier4hotel.com/ & I THINK less $$$ than on the island. They own the Crab Trap http://www.thecrabtrap.com/ [mmmm, salmon & spinach] so you can phone down for a table & sit up in your room or on your balcony & they'll phone your room when the table is ready ~ I believe being able to stay in your room might be a big + with the young'uns. If y'all can get a bayview room, it's extra special. And Somers Point has a FREE little bay beach that the young'uns might like.

Even though I know Pt. Pleasant (and love it) a lot better than Ocean City. I would recommend that you split the week between Ocean City and Cape May. It is a little less hectic than Point and I think has better accommodations available. Cape May is a unique Victorian place.

I suggest you pre~plan as much as possible, so you can make ressies. For example, Pier 4 bayview rooms go quickly. Cityview is actually parking lot view

To answer the rest of your question...late June would be better than late July. Many schools in New York/New Jersey do not end until late in June, so that time should be less crowded.

Point pleasant boardwalk is shorter than ocean city's. for little kids it would be fine. there is also an aquarium (small don't get too excited!) that is suited to young children. http://www.jenkinsons.com for information

Ocean City is dry (sometimes folks want to know ) http://www.ocnj.us for information

then there is cape may. really like it, but no rides here, this is miniture golf and beach, arcade.....you are then close to the wildwood boardwalk! very close to cape may

in cape may a very convenient place to stay (with a pool) and a variety of room configurations that are family friendly; http://capemaycamelot.com or take a look at http://www.capemay.com/capemayhotels.html
