alcohol on the beach

What is the true story with alcohol on the beach? We by no means are alcoholics, but we do like to have a cold beer on the beach in the afternoon heat. I've read that all SC beaches prohibit alcohol except Folly Beach. One rental agent said that Sullivan's Beach lets you "get away with it" as long as you are not rowdy. Another agent told me she lived on IOP for several years and they always had alcohol on the beach and the patrols are just looking for underage and abusive drinkers so as long as we had just one or two it should be fine. So what's the true story?

Public beaches in South Carolina prohibit alcohol.

Private beaches permit alcohol (assuming good behavior by the consumers).

On private beaches like Kiawah Island (except for the small area of the county park) and Seabrook Island, you can enjoy your cold beer at leisure.

Yes, all PUBLIC beaches prohibit alcohol. BUT....if you keep your beer cans in those coozie things, or mixed drinks in thermo's and plastic cups, they

more than likely will not say anything. True ....they look for the obviously

intoxicated...and those that litter or walk around holding beer cans.

Just use common sense....you will be fine.

Lifeguards are watching the swimmers, and police pass by...just so their presence is known. (just don't wave to them with a beer in your hand! ;)
