White Water and Rock Scrambles in the White Mountains

We will be in the area late Aug. into Labor Day weekend and my 14 year old loves hikes with rock scrambles, white water (although I heard the spring is the time for white water) and kyaking. Any suggestions? Also, we were thinking of staying at Adventure Suites which looks like a hoot, does anyone have any thoughts on lodging there? Thanks a million. Babs

For white water, will you bring or will you need to rent equipment? Are you skilled and experienced and looking for the places, or competent and adventurous and looking for a directed experience? You are right about spring being better, but there is white water in summer, too. Neslaw is right about Maine for white water, and there are a number of companies that offer white water rafting trips. You could probably google White Water Rafting Maine and find them, I forget the specific rivers where this happens.

You could do the same for kayaking in NH and Maine. www.visitnh.gov, the nH Tourism site, may have some of the info you are looking for. You might also contact EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports). You could probably start with your local EMS store. Folks there are quite knowledgeable. But you might also want to contact the store at the corporate headquarters in Peterborough, NH 603-924-7231. They will have a lot of info, and could put you in the right direction. You might also ask them about the schools and program they run geared toward these interests. They run a climbing school in the White Mountains and lead all kinds of land and water expeditions.
