Worth doing activities in the rain?

I'm heading to the White Mountains this weekend with my boyfriend and it looks like rain for most of our trip. We were planning on doing the Polar Caves, Franconia Notch, Lost River Gorge, and Zip Lining. Is any of this stuff worth doing in the rain?

it depends. weather will impact visibility going thru the notches. not sure I am up for ziplining in the rain but if you have the right gear?

Lost river can flood causing it to close. good luck!!

Rain brings its own beauty. The light is soft and even with a nice glisteny sheen. Zip line may not operate for safety reasons. Also because most people tend not to go out for activities like this on a rainy day.

Polar Caves should be fine. After all, it's a cave :-)

Wallks and Hikes in the notch and corge should be fine. More ambitious, strenuous or technical hikes can get slippery. So be careful. But the rivers keep running, maybe more vigorously. And the combination of smaller crowds and the muffled sound of the rain can make for a quiet, serene experience.

Give some thought to rain wear. Leave the umbrella behind, except for minimalist wallks. It is better to have your hands free. A layer of fleece or wool under a waterproof or water resistant shell will keep yoou warm even if you get wet. Footwear that will keep water out would be a better choice than porous athletic shoes. Have a change of clothes in the car so you can get dry and warm if you get wet on your outing, and can be ready to go out for a hot one...or a cold one, if you prefer.

Have fun. Don't let the rain deter you. The mountains will be beautiful.

We drove out on Friday and stopped at the Polar Caves. The gentleman and his wife that run the place are absolutely wonderful and although I'm not usually a fan, the gift shop had some very cool and different items for sale. The Polar Caves were at incredible sight and one of the gentleman that worked there told us that they had been averaging a thousand people a day, when we went there was only five other people, we had the place to ourselves. After spending several hours crawling around in the caves we continued on to our motel , the Profile Motel & Cottages to dry up. We rented one of the little cabins in the back with a small enclosed porch, which was small, clean and comfortable. By this time we were hungry so we stopped at the Common Man for dinner and some spiced hot ciders. Everything was delicous.

The next day we woke up early for Breakfast at the Flapjakes Pancake House, there was a little wait for a table but the food was definetly worth it! After breakfast we went to the Flum Gorge for a hike. The water was flowing like crazy and the weather remained fairly dry most of the day just overcast. After hiking this amazing trail we went over for the tram for a ride up the mountain. It was so beautiful at the top, cold but beautiful! We grabbed some hot drinks from the cafeteria and went to look around outside. At this point you could actually see a rainstorm off in the distance moving in, so we decided to head back down. We grabbed some lunch at the Woodstock Inn and Brewery. They didn't have as many choices of beer as I had hoped,( As I went to order the sampler most of the beers were the seasonal ones and they didn't have). Other than that the food wasn't bad and it was a fun place to visit. After lunch we decided to walk around town a little and poked around in an old antique store and went down the street to buy some delicous fudge! At this point is was around 4pm so we went back to the motel and cleaned up and took a little cat nap before we headed off to dinner. Dinner that was going to be the Thai/ Japanese resturant in town but when we couldn't get a table. After about 20 mins waiting and nobody coming over t us or saying anything we finally left.and went to Gordi's where we had a great evening! My boyfriend loved the Jelly Beans at the Salad Bar.

Sunday, our last day we went back to Flapjacks for Breakfast because it was sooo good the day before. Then we drove the Kankgamangus Highway out to Conway (The sun started to peal through and the views were awesome!) When we got to Conway we went to the Weather Museum. They had some fun stuff to see and then if was off to the Castle in Sky, where we hiked along some beautiful waterfalls and then drove to the top and spent the next several hours just taking in the incredible views of the lakes and surrounding mountains. As the sun started to set, we set off for home after our incredible and exhausting weekend.
