Air Travel in/out for Banff and Jasper

Hello,

We are traveling to the Canadian Rockies in June 2014. We plan to spend 4 nights in Banff followed by 3 nights in Jasper. We plan to fly in to Calgary, does is make sense to fly out of Edmonton, or go back to Calgary. Any recommendations on car rental? Thanks!

It's best to fly in & out of Calgary; the drive from Jasper to Calgary is far more scenic than the drive from Jasper to Edmonton, since you'll be taking the Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93N between Jasper & Lake Louise). The Icefields Parkway was listed by National Geographic Traveller magazine as one of their 20 "drives of a lifetime".

+1 for that. Its more scenic, you will not regret having a second chance to see the scenery along the Parkway, and it saves you a one-way drop fee to return your rental car to Calgary. Its just win-win-win all around.

+1

In the winter, you would want to minimize driving, but in June, it's well worth another drive along the Icefields. There's plenty to do and see and enjoy!

That said, it is faster from Jasper to Edmonton than Jasper to Calgary, so if there is a cheaper rate for a Calgary/Edmonton open jaw or better timing, you might want to consider Edmonton. However, Calgary will have a wider range of flights.

Jasper to Edmonton is a very boring drive; Jasper to Calgary follows the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise and then the TCH #1 to Calgary, which is a very scenic drive.
