Beach Time - Best Pics

So we havetwo patches of beach time in our itinerary, which includes the ruins at Chichen, Coba, Ek Balam and Uxmal (Tulum too), and time in Merida, as well as natural sights like cenotes, and nature parks, etc.

If we can chose two from the following, which would offer up the best sand, and water for snorkelling, swimming, and say, boogie boarding, as well as best overall atmosphere and scenery:

playa del carmen and area (with a possible day trip to Isla Mujeres)

Holbox Island

Please chose your top two and let us know your reasoning.

We should note that we're not mega resort, large development, buffet types, but we do like high quality beds, linens and "fluff" factor - we try to avoid stuffiness, and we like to travel as a family - but we do like the higher quality accommodations (too bad PDC is so expensive...).

We are hoping to be on a beach or within an easy walk, and a great pool for the kids is key. We have followed some recommendations here already but some places are too expensive, full (or not kids allowed).

If you have any other recommendations for these beach stops mentioned please let us know but for sure please let us know your top two beach destinations out of those mentioned.

As well please let us know which beach destination would make the best start, and the best end, for our trip.

Many thanks again...

Tulum beaches are gorgeous, good for swimming and ususally have some surf for boogie boarding. PDC is also lovely, though a bit more crowded in spots, nice for swimming though a bit tame for boogie boarding. Neither is great for snorkeling, though from either you could do a day trip to Akumal (located between the two) which also has beautiful beaches and very good snorkeling - lots of turtles!

1). Tulum also for the beach it is really beautiful, bring your swimsuits to the ruins and walk down the stairs to the beach one of my favorite places to be..Standing by the Tulum ruins looking down at the beach is one of the prettiest site I have seen..

Also I agree with 2). Akumal beach we have stayed there 3 times and the beach is nice and the snorkeling is wonderful..Below is a link to Hotel Caribe on Akumal Beach..It has a nice small pool near the beach if you stay in the hotel other sections you can rent to on the site right on or near Akumal Beach ..

Just got back from Isla Mujeres and North Beach is nice, but was a lttle crowded when we went it was the 2 weeks of Christmas but we had a beautiful small beach almost to ourselves for the most part at the Avalon Reef..

If you did go to Isla Mujeres the Privilege Aluxes was very nice a little pricey for us, we are kinda 3 star( meaning cheap) ppl this hotel below was beautiful from the outside and gets great reviews..Also Color de Verano

was beautiful and across the street from the beach ...

Playa was just way to crowded for us went once will not go back..As for Isla Holbox we have not been there so cannot comment..

Safe travels...jimmy
