First Time

First time to Kalamaki and Zante in just over a week. Have hired a car, what are the "must do's" for first time visitors. Have 4 and 2 year old on tow so need to be family friendly. Thanks

There's not that much on the island that's geared for kids. There's the waterparks, one in Kalamaki and one in Tsivilli, both attached to AI hotels but open to the paying public. And there's a bigger one inland. There's the nature/wildlife park in the north part of the island and there's a few crazy golf places. That's pretty much your lot. There's is a kids play centre near the airport and a lot of hotels and bars have kids play areas.

Also, if you go into Zante Town at night, there are some wee fairground rides for kids and electric cars in the main square but that's about it for small ones.

I would say the two main things that first time visitors want to do are a turtle spotting trip and a visit to the shipwreck, turtle spotting would probably be more interesting for little ones. I don't think the shipwreck is particularly suitable for very young children but if you decide to go there don't book a full day cruise, a half day excursion is much better. also try to get one of the smaller boats so you're not packed in like sardines!

I agree with Dr_Cheese01 but we hired a pedalo to see the turtles, unbelievable sight when the come up close. Hire one around 4pm thats when they seems to be about the most.

If you are worried about little ones on the pedalo, we had our own swim jackets similar to life jackets and plus the sea isn't that deep so you can go out pretty far and as an adult touch the floor if you need to rescue any overboard!

We have been looking for turtles with the kids since they were the age yours are now (ours are now 7 & 9) and they love it.

If you have hired a car, just drive, don't look at a map and get lost, great fun and let the kids choose which turning next. It's very easy to find your way back with signs etc... from the main town. We always end up in the hills and find a lovely taverna and they spoil the kids with ice creams etc... whilst we chilled looking at the views over a cold glass of coke (Driving!)

All in all it's what you like as a family and there are excursions and water parks that are child friendly.

Enjoy!
