The Old Road - Kalamaki's best kept secret

If you are in Kalamaki, make sure you visit the Old Road. Make your way along the strip away from the airport and start at Melon Bar and Poseidon before turing right into the Old Road. We found the atmosphere here to be much more relaxed and less hassle from the restaurant owners. The food prices here were much cheaper than the main strip and the quality was the same if not better. Also some great distinctive bars. Well worth the walk!

I don't think it's really a secret, when we first visited the area we got back and read about "the old Kalamaki road" we thiught we had missed something till we realised the reality is it's just the bars round the corner at the end of the strip.

I agree the food prices were lower on the old road, but the choice was less. The biggest negative that we found was the noise, as the road is narrow the traffic in particular quad bikes noise is very intrusive, on the main road this is not an issue as the road is much wider.

We found Hera and Georgia to be of paticularly good value. We found the level of staff trying to pull you into the restaurants pretty much the same round the corner on the main strip, none were pushy (apart from Yamas)

We much prefer the "Old Road" too. Can't say we experienced any issues with noise in the 2 weeks we were there. Can't recommend Hera enough - we would sit on our balcony at the next door Meandros and watch Heras owner harvesting his veggies each morning ready to serve in his restaurant that same day.

We didn't have any issues with PR's in fact Poseidon even asked us to have a drink with them after we had eaten elsewhere. Only because we stopped to chat with them a few times.

We preferred the old road as less hassled . The road can be quite busy but once you've had a few cocktails at oceanic you don't notice . Also the food at puzzle is simply fab , couldn't fault it whist we were there. Excellent service, decent prices and very friendly and welcoming .
