Taxi to Zia.

Do taxis take you up to Zia from Kardamena and pick you up afterwards. Is this easy to arrange and approx how much will this cost? Also which day/time is likely to be the quietest? Thanks in advance.

A Taxi will take you anywhere you wish provided you pay them, we have been to Zia numerous times but we have had a hire car, as for time of the day I would say morning is probably quietest, but it is ver seasonal and the coaches arrive in large numbers from around mid day onwards.

Having said that we went up in August last year and it was much quieter than previous years, and generally Kos seems to be quieter this year (according to people there)

You could probably hire a car for a day cheaper than a taxi and you could do Zia, Kos town and Tigaki as a round trip.

Thanks for that Barry.Been to Kos many times before but never been to Zia because wife not happy with heights greek roads etc.Was more worried about getting taxi back afterwards.Arriving next Monday and must do Zia this time maybe I'll let her have a few glasses of wine and tell her we're going to Kos Town for our evening meal.

The road to Zia is not bad at all, a few bends but no great drops, if you go along the main road toward Kos town there's a large pond on the right (Wall painted white) if you turn right there and follow the road up to Zia it's not bad, remind her that coaches drive up there so the roads must be reasonable.

One thing I would say is that the food offered up there has dclined over the years and my suggestion would be visit in the morning and then on to Kos town for lunch.

Something that did surprise me about Zia was that souveniers etc were actually cheaper there than in Kos town or Laganas, it could be that there is a lot of competition up there and tourist numbers are down, but there are plenty of shops to pick from, and of course a few bars for you to wait in while she wanders the shops :)

In case you do not want to drive..you could always get one of the coaches up there....Ticket Travel and Offshore Travel do a coach trip up every Monday.....12 euros return but as Barry said, much better to rent a car and go there in the car...unlike Barry I would much prefer to have lunch in Zia than in Kos Town....oh and the Island of Kos is not quieter this year.....the villages are...

Just back from Kos, Go in the evening to see the fabulus sunset, about 7 pm is best before the coaches all arrive. the tourist shops are MORE EXPENSIVE in Zia than other places. Roads are fine. Hire a car to see the sights. PLAKA is great to see peacocks in a wild environment. Flamingoes in the salt lake at TIGAKI. Thermal springs are a bit pants, not what we expected. Best Beach is CAMEL BEACH. Any more info just ask.

Depends on what time of year you go up in August it's a lovely steady ride back but may you need a coat on and the panorama taverna is left has you get to the crossroad with the large church take the right and you go up past fantasia if you go over the mountain from kardamena go through pyli down the hill and you come to st George small village with large church on right turn right just before church and follow all the way to the crossroad I mentioned earlier also this way you go very close to old pyli and the castle at top of mountain and the old village ruins walk up the other side and their is a small taverna at the top great views

keithpaulakos Makes an interesting point re Old Pyli, we went up to old Pyli in 2012 had previously not heard of it, there was quite a bit to see and we fdund it interesting, with a small spring running down from the mountain (That you drive accross) it is an idylic spot.

When you go past the church and along the road you have options of going left that takes you up to Old Pyli (Sort of round the back) or if you go straight on you go to the more interesting side of Old Pyli and get to climb up through the ruins along a twisting path (Far more to see)
