Self catering - prices in shops please!

Having been considering the Luabay and shocked by the reviews we are now looking into renting an apartment as as complete change from all inc.

Looking for info on the following

1. Prices of basics in supermarkets - bread, cheese, cereals, milk, salads, things like ham or chicken to go on sandwiches, beer, wine, snacks such as crisps, pasta, soft drinks, fruits - you get the idea! We would want to eat out most evenings so this would be shopping for a week based on breakfasts and lunches and drinks for a couple with no kids. Any idea of a weekly budget would be great or at least an idea of prices.

2. Are the supermarkets in the centre of Costa Teguise more expensive than any on the outskirts? We are not planning on hiring a car so out of town shopping would involve taxis.

3. Finally (sorry!) I believe there is a good choice of eating places for the evenings... discounting really cheap places how much would the average spend be for a couple for two courses and drinks? What are bar prices like ie. beer, spirits, wine.

Sorry this is huge but we are on a budget and are aware that the rate of exchange is terrible these days. We have been doing all inc for a couple of years.

Any advice or help would be gratefully received!! (ps we are looking at travelling end of June/early July)

first off glad you changed your mind!! have had some customers from that hotel this week and by the sound of things its not good!wish hotels would listen to their customers complaints and take them seriously!

ok then, supermarkets in town are a bit more expensive might be worth getting a taxi to euro spar just on the outskirts of costa, about 6 euro in a taxi but depends where you are you could walk there and taxi back much cheaper and you will be able to shop for the week.i've just done a basic 2 weeks shop for around 70 euro for two of us including fresh meat and veg,but bare in mind uk products will be much dearer than in uk.

meals out vary but most places around 25-35 euro for two courses and wine, some cheaper some dearer, shop around and ask the pr's outside what they reccomend or what the daily special menu is.lots of places do set menu of three courses for ten euro depending on time of day.

drinks vary too but most places do a large beer for 1.50 and spirit and mixer for about 4 euro check out chispas in the main square basic but very cheap drinks spirits from 2 euro. places with entertainment will onbviously be dearer but happy hours help!

if you haven't got accomodtion sorted yet have a look on espanabreaks.com or lanzarotelates.com both sites have private accomodation from apts to villas at good prices.

happy hols xx

Hi

Many thanks for your advice and help. I am keen to give the self catering thing a try again - sounds like it might be do-able on our budget. I will check out those websites you recommend.

Thanks again!

Hi, we found it quite expensive, at least, not cheap. Average price of a one course meal, bread and a drink each around 25-30 euros, there are some happy hours, odd times though we found, and some early evening 3 course meal offers. The supermarkets in the resort were well stocked and plenty of choice with lovely fresh bread and fruit and veg, but again a fair bit more expensive than here. Buy local produce as much as you can. If you smoke, drink beer, and love a full english brekkie though, you'll be in heaven!

Not eaten in costa teguise for a while but 25-30 euro's for one course and a drink (provided it isn't a vintage glass of wine) sounds dear to me. I had 2 courses, a large beer and coffee's in puerto calero for 20 euro's last night.

beer was really cheap, wine bit cheaper than here, meals to suit each and every budget, steak around 10-14 euros but loads of cheape stuff too, pizza, pasta etc, fish fairly cheap, loads of choice. CT can be as cheap or as dear as you make it, can do bargain one night, posh the next

not sure where you were eating bea but that is extortionate that makes a main meal around 19 euro?cant think of anywhere that charges that? and wont be looking either lol.

like INDEPENDANT says, some places charge around 10/14 eruo ish for a main course of steak with veg rice etc but most places are much cheaper you just have to shop around even in the more upmarket restaurants ( eg. navarro ,oscars etc.) we pay about 60 euro per couple for two courses with bread and a bottle of vino.not that we get out much but its nice to think about it! lol

Was in Lanzarote in March,we didn`t pay more than 37euros for 2 of us for really great meals with starters ,mains, beers and a bottle of wine, and that

was eating at Emmas cantina in PDC and Las Maretas in Costa Teguise, I do appreciate what you choose on the menu makes up the cost but we don`t look for the cheapest ,cant wait to be back in Costa Teguise in October.

you can eat out quite cheaply if you look around, Fishermans Inn, Casa Luis are both good value and you can check out their reviews on Trip advisor.
